My agent interrupts, repeats itself or mispronounces words

What to do when your agent interrupts callers, sounds robotic or repetitive, or mispronounces email addresses and phone numbers.

Fine-tune how your Kollie agent communicates by adjusting its prompts and scripting in the Agent Settings. These tweaks help improve clarity and professionalism during calls.

The agent interrupts the caller

If the agent talks over the caller, add turn-taking instructions to the prompt, such as:

  • "Wait for the user to finish speaking before responding."
  • "Pause briefly before replying."

This ensures smoother, more natural conversations.

The agent speaks too fast or too slowly

Talking speed comes from the voice. Each voice speaks at its own speed, and there is no separate speed setting. Instructions in the prompt such as "speak slowly" don't change it.

To change the speed, choose a different voice under Voice and Language and make a test call. Try several voices, one at a time, and keep the one that suits your callers. See How to build your AI phone agent.

The agent repeats itself or sounds robotic

When an agent feels robotic or repetitive, it's often due to overly rigid scripting. Introduce variety with branching logic or alternate phrasing so the conversation feels more human.

The agent mispronounces email addresses or phone numbers

  • Write them phonetically in the prompt for correct pronunciation.
  • Example: support@kollie.ai → "support at kollie dot a i."

This prevents confusion and improves comprehension for the caller.
